đź“™ 40/70 decision-making rule

Hello,

Sometimes readers ask me for tips about decision making. I'm not a good decision maker so I thought I'd share with you a quick thought by someone who is.

In his book Man Up entrepreneur Bedros Keuilian writes:

If you find something you’re excited about but don’t take immediate action on, you’re probably searching for problems and finding reasons not to do it. The longer you wait, the less likely you are to pull the trigger. You’ll lose morale, speed, and enthusiasm. That’s why great leaders decide quickly and move on. In his biography, General Colin Powell talks about his 40/70 rule. He says that to make a decision, great leaders need as little as 40 percent of the information and no more than 70 percent. In other words, those who wait to gather 100 percent of the information and facts before making the decision end up losing the edge in business and in life.

(The parts in bold are mine)

These are the same things I recommend doing: start as soon as possible, even if imperfectly, and tweak along the way.

With appreciation,

Martin
